Our SADHA group participated in Give Kids a Smile. They provided free screening exams, prophylaxis, fluoride treatment and oral hygiene instructions to 53 children. They also did 100 sealants. They are currently planning their participation in the Havasu Stick ‘em Day which is a health fair/immunization community event. They will be doing fluoride varnishes and oral hygiene instructions.
Their current fundraising projects include Ultradent Treswhite whitening system sales. This is a year-round fundraiser. At the end of September, they will have a booth at the Kiawana’s Cornfest. The Cornfest is a community event that provides a carnival-type atmosphere with games, entertainment and refreshments. Candle sales and a spaghetti dinner are also in the works.
Our SADHA group also planned our first pinning ceremony in May. It was a beautiful ceremony with lots of bittersweet moments and tears. The student awards went to Viki Rowden and Kristin Dunton. Viki was awarded the Colgate STAR award and Kristin was awarded the Hu-Friedy Golden Scaler.
SADHA officers for the 2006-07 school year are Mike Moore, president; Bianca Fadely, vice president; Mahria Miller, secretary; Adehlia Hangs, treasurer and Shellie Farrington, historian. This group, as well as the general membership for this year is very focused on community service, so I expect that they will plan many more community type events.
